Why Hyaluronic acid is your dry skin savior

We've known for years that keeping skin hydrated, particularly in dry climates, keeps it more radiant and all-around healthier, since it's less likely to break, crack, or become inflamed. One super skin hydrating ingredient, in particular, stands out--Hyaluronic Acid, your dry skin savior. Why?

Hyaluronic acid attracts and retains moisture in your skin --it can hold up to 1,000 times its own weight in water! It's the same ingredient used in injectable fillers.

According to Jessica Weiser, a board-certified dermatologist at New York Dermatology Group, "When applied topically to the skin, hyaluronic acid holds water to the skin surface to increase hydration of the cells and surface, without occlusion (blockage). This moistens the skin surface to alleviate dryness, facilitate healing and create a protective barrier.”

Topical treatments with hyaluronic acid helps to maintain a youthful-looking appearance by replenishing the hyaluronic acid content in our skin that diminishes as we grow older, which contributes to significant dryness, sagging and wrinkling."

More tips for hydrating Winter skin-

  • Use an exfoliating polish is used 2 times/week.  Regular exfoliation is especially important for dry skin—patches of dead, flaky cells not only look less-than-pretty, they also prevent moisturizer from penetrating into and hydrating skin.
  • Use your moisturizer while your skin is still damp, after cleansing or showering.
  • Antioxidant-rich moisturizers are your friend!  Look for Vitamins C, E, and Vitamin B.  A serum that includes both antioxidants and hyaluronic acid is best!
