1. We don't care about how we look - Simply not true! Yes, our culture is youth-obsessed, but we can be very attractive and fit in our 50's and 60's! While we care about our looks, most of us are past obsessing about them. We stay informed on fashion and beauty trends and are willing to put in a little extra time to look and feel our best. We know healthy always looks best.
2. We are too old to date and fall in love again - I personally know women, ages 55 to 65, getting back into the dating arena--even remarrying. I remarried at age 59 and I'm here to tell you...it's the best! Yes, we're set in our ways, but, we also know the value of compromise. Here is the other plus--sex! Sex in your 50's and 60s can be better than ever. You've got more time and fewer distractions, and getting older often means you're more comfortable in your own skin.
3. We're not employable -Age may dim our employment prospects, but older people often have the financial ability to start up their own businesses — with the potential to embark upon a second career, doing something that they always wanted to do. Age discrimination does not exist when you are your own boss.
Businesses and services that are geared toward people in their 70s and 80s that can be done by people in their 50s and 60s are on the rise, according to AARP. A perfect example is patient advocacy services for seniors who need assistance with health care-related issues, such as tackling billing mistakes or sorting out insurance coverage. There’s also a need for home-modification professionals, fitness trainers for seniors and personal finance planners. There is also a huge demand for things as basic as bill-paying services.
4. We should wear our hair short and grey over 40 - Just not true. There are many over 40 (even over 60) actresses that rock long hair--Christie Brinkley for example. But, how about the rest of us? Many women decide to stop coloring their hair to save time and money. I think it's important to evaluate the "Why" we think grey is best. If it's a color you've truly always wanted and know you'll look and feel great in, then go for it! Just be sure to change your makeup and colors in the clothing you wear, or you run the risk of looking washed out and dowdy.

It finally feels like a Winter Day in Southern California. 50 degree high! The perfect day to try a new soup recipe.
I made the change to whole food, plant-based eating nine months ago and while it's had its challenges, the rewards have been greater. The challenges have been to break the Meat, Carb, Veggie meal habit I was in for 50 years, to Carb and Veggie only, minus dairy. Also, I no longer think of carbs as the enemy. In fact, they are my new bff's.
The fun part of teaching myself to cook differently is the ethnic dishes I've discovered. Today, it's African Peanut Soup. Oh my gosh, the spices! I love the way our house smells as I broaden my culinary horizons.
Have you noticed changes in your skin over 50? Hormonal changes cause everything from enlarged pores to painful cysts. Decreases in estrogen levels leave the skin drier, thinner, more sensitive and less toned post 50. We can't control getting older, but what about the things we can change?
4 things we do to contribute to bad skin days:
